University recognises police training

Surrey Police has been recognised by Portsmouth University Institute of Criminal Justice Studies (ICJS) for the quality of its officer and staff training.
The Learning and Development Department, based at Mount Browne police headquarters, has been awarded Associate Department Status by the university.
To qualify for this award, the training facilities underwent vigorous inspection, as did a report submitted by Surrey Police which confirmed the high quality of training delivery.
Superintendent Neil Boon, Head of Learning and Development, said, "It has long been our ambition to gain external recognition as a centre of excellence and I am particularly pleased for all the training staff who work so hard to ensure that Surrey Police employees have the best possible training."
There are plans in place for the two organisations to share facilities and develop joint training programmes that will benefit students. Surrey Police, in partnership with ICJS, has already started work on a number of exciting new initiatives, including the development of training options for new joiners and research and development to improve understanding between emergency services at scenes of critical incidents.
