University and Police partnership celebrates Summer graduation

July 9, 2008 saw the Graduation of 20 student Police Officers at The University of Northampton, following their completion of a two-year joint training programme in partnership with Northamptonshire Police and the University's School of Social Sciences.

Dean of Social Sciences, Chris Moore, commented: "The students undertake the Initial Police Learning and Development Programme, with a National Vocational Qualification and Certificate in Higher Education.

"We are proud to be the first University to see students receiving these Awards alongside other graduates and VIPs present on campus during the University's wider Summer Graduation ceremonies.

"It was fantastic to see the officers enjoy the occasion in a combination of academic gown and Police uniform, and to meet their families and friends who were clearly very proud of their achievements."

The partnership between the University and Northamptonshire Police was initially designed as part of a two-year agreement. However, the joint initiative has proven so successful that the University will be leading a new Police training development in the region. This will incorporate a pre-entry Foundation Degree in Policing and Criminal Justice Services set to begin later this year.
