The Resilience Centre at Cranfield University

The concept of resilience has risen to prominence over a very short period of time. It has migrated from the fields of engineering and the environment to encompass the ability of social systems to identify, avoid, manage and recover from shock.

Effective crisis, disaster, security and risk management procedures are essential to the successful conduct of the emergency services' operations. The Resilience Centre at Cranfield University at Shrivenham near Swindon has been specifically established to improve the capacity of organisations and societies to respond to disruptive challenges and crises through academic research and the provision of relevant education, training and operational support.

The staff of the Centre comprises both academics specialising in resilience and former members of the UK emergency services and armed forces, who during their first careers were heavily involved in the field of security together with crisis and disaster management.

The Centre offers a broad cross section of education and training delivered by the following courses, both at Cranfield University Shrivenham and in most cases at clients' preferred locations.
