Studying Law at the University of Hertfordshire

The University of Hertfordshire is home to one of the largest and most innovative Law Schools in the Country and has recently launched a genuinely flexible four year part-time LLB Law Degree Programme, which is designed to respond to the needs of people in employment by offering a variety of study patterns to fit in with work and family commitments.

The part-time programme is accommodating and convenient for all needs. A student can choose to study on campus during the day, one evening per week, alternative weekends or can take advantage of our extensive distance learning expertise by being taught via our truly interactive, state-of-the-art online forum.

These modes of study do not exist purely alone as there is the ability to switch between the different modes. This means that you can study in the way that fits in with you on a weekly basis.

Serving Police Officer and current part-time student (and winner of the Hertfordshire High Sheriffs' and Judges' Scholarship for 2009) PC Taurayi Chamboko said: "The flexibility of the part-time LLB Programme has responded superbly to my work and family commitments and even though I have been out of formal education for several years, the help and support provided by my tutors has been first class."

The Universities' students are placed at the heart of our activities as demonstrated by an overall approval rating of 90% or greater in the National Student Survey in the past two years. This is a reflection of the creative, ambitious and high quality educational experience available to our students.
We have a very successful Mock Trial Project that allows students to gain valuable advocacy skills in the context of a criminal trial and offers training sessions to the police and others in the criminal justice system. Their Mooting Team has an international reputation and represented the United Kingdom in the Commonwealth Mooting Competition held in Hong Kong in 2009. The University offers unrivalled networking activities with the legal profession and have strong ties with the Hertfordshire Law Society and the West London Law Society.

These links will inevitably be strengthened with the School's relocation to the modern £120m De Havilland Campus in 2011. A new £10m Law School is being built and this move will allow students to work in modern facilities, including a modern courtroom with public gallery, a bespoke Law Clinic and Mediation Centre. The Mediation Centre will become the centre of training for mediators in the region and will be an invaluable resource for both undergraduate students and also our students on our new full-time Legal Practice Course.

If you are concerned about the rigours of undergraduate study you may want to consider our UH Law Prep Programme. This short course will provide potential students with the opportunity to develop skills for studying law at undergraduate level.

Whatever career goal you may have in the Law, we want you to achieve it, and we can give you the education and training that you need. For further details please email
