Cleveland Police hosts IAG Conference

Cleveland Police is set to host the eighth National Independent Advisory Group (IAG) Conference in November. The conference takes place at the Thistle Hotel in Middlesbrough on 24th and 25th November and has the theme of "Meeting the Needs of Our Changing Communities".

The conference will provide an opportunity for IAG and other Force representatives around the UK to come together and discuss the challenges of meeting the needs of changing communities.

Guest speakers include Saima Afzal, member for Equalities at the Association of Police Authorities, Chief Constable of Devon and Cornwall Constabulary Stephen Otter and broadcaster Hardeep Singh Kholi. There will be a number of workshops running over the two days including LGBT issues, community cohesion and tension monitoring, youth issues, honour based violence, preventing violent extremism and managing its impact on our communities, migration issues and disability issues.

Deputy Chief Constable of Cleveland Police, Derek Bonnard, said, "I'm delighted that Cleveland is hosting the 8th National IAG Conference. Our Independent Advisors are particularly valuable in helping link the police to diverse groups in the community, both during a major incident as well as the regular contact through citizen-focused Neighbourhood Policing. "The conference itself will provide a forum to share good practice and experiences, as well as explore the challenges of meeting the needs of our changing communities.
