A major supermarket chain has joined forces with Norfolk Constabulary in a bid to help boost the number of Specials on the beat in the county.

Sainsbury's has signed up to the force's Employer Supported Policing Scheme, which encourages companies to give staff a percentage of time off to don the uniform in support of their local community.

So far 11 employees of the chain in Norfolk have chosen to join the ranks - six of whom were congratulated last month by Assistant Chief Constable Kevin Wilkins at an official attestation ceremony at Norfolk Constabulary's Wymondham headquarters.

Diane Carter, Sainsbury's Zone Managing Director for the region, said: "The Employer Supported Policing Scheme is an important addition to Sainsbury's Safer Neighbourhood programme. "I'm delighted that so many Sainsbury's colleagues are graduating from the scheme as it gives them the opportunity to really develop their skills and serve their local community, offering a great service to customers and colleagues alike. Norfolk Constabulary has been very supportive and I am pleased our partnership continues to grow."
