Forces flock to Notts

Last month, detectives from a dozen English forces were in Nottingham to learn more about the use of capture houses.

Capture houses set up by the force in Nottingham were featured in a BBC documentary screened nationally in February.

Almost 2m viewers saw the programme, among them officers from forces from as far a field as Kent and Northumberland, who were among the 25 detectives who attended a seminar at Central Police Station. The event was organised by DS Dave Bola from the force's intelligence unit, and currently assigned to Operation Vanguard, who led the capture house project in Nottingham. DS Dave Bola was also supported by DS Craig Luckett from the burglary team at Canning Circus.

DS Bola said: "The reaction to the documentary was overwhelmingly positive and it really is a feather in our cap that so many other forces want to come to Nottingham to find out precisely how it hashelped us to arrest and ultimately obtain convictions for some of Nottingham's most prolific burglars.

"This event was about sharing best practice with colleagues from across the country. Discussing the intelligence around the project, as well as the technical requirements. The delegates also heard from representatives from SmartWater, who have supported the capture house project. "Modern policing relies very much on exchanges of ideas and intelligence, and it's very satisfying to know we are leading the way in this particular approach to combating burglary.
