Primetime series follows road crime officers

The work of the South Yorkshire Police's Road Crime Unit is the focus of the forthcoming series of Police Interceptors starting on Monday, 13 June, at 8pm on Channel 5. The observational documentary about crime and roads policing follows the Force's dedicated Road Crime Unit who is responsible for denying criminals the use of the county's roads, reducing road casualties and tackling antisocial use of vehicles. At its disposal, the unit has a number of marked and unmarked cars and motorbikes, each equipped with automatic number plate recognition and digital recording technology enabling them to identify offenders, and increasingly, educate drivers on the risks of their behaviour.
Chief Insp Stuart Walne, Head of Roads Policing said: "The Interceptors' production team have been with us for over five months collating footage that shows the diverse work that the Road Crime Unit do. The unit use high-powered vehicles and apply themselves to a wide range of policing issues with great success. There is no question that this unit makes a significant contribution to making South Yorkshire's roads safer.
