New body cameras for Chorley and South Ribble police
Tuesday, 29 March, 2011
POLICE in Chorley and South Ribble have received 68 new body cameras which will help to capture crime on film.
Funded by the Chorley and South Ribble Community Safety Partnership, the cameras can either be clipped onto an officer's stab vest or mounted inside a vehicle.
Chief Insp Geoff Hurst said: "This equipment will help to gather video evidence that can be presented to the courts to show exactly what has happened during an incident.
"The cameras are also an effective deterrent to anyone engaging in or threatening violent or anti-social behaviour."
"Crime is low in Chorley and South Ribble and ultimately we hope that these cameras will help to keep it that way."
Specialist body cameras are worn by many officers across the force to gather both audio and visual evidence on a variety of crimes including domestic violence and anti-social behaviour.
They are a similar size and weight of a mobile phone.
