A Greater Manchester Police radio dispatch team won Team of the Year at the North West Contact Centre Awards this week.

The Command and Control team, based at Trafford's Operational Control Room, is responsible for dispatching police officers to incidents across Greater Manchester. They deal with thousands of emergency and non-emergency calls every day and were praised by CallNorthWest judges for their 'passion and dedication' to their work.

Applicants were assessed against a number of criteria including how well they work together, the quality of the service they provide and how the team supports the organisation as a whole.

Diane Grandidge, Trafford Operational Control Room Manager, said: "We were absolutely thrilled when we found out we had won the award.

"Everyone in the Operational Communications Branch works incredibly hard to deliver the best possible service to the people of Greater Manchester, so it's great that one of our teams has been recognised for their commitment and dedication to the job."

The team was up against representatives from other industry-leading contact centres across the North West including Cable and Wireless, Pontins, the Charity Commission and BOC Gases. The winners were announced at an award at a gala dinner in the Palace Hotel, Manchester, on 14 October.

This award comes in the same week that GMP demonstrated the wide range of incidents GMP's officers and staff have to deal with each day during it's 24-hour Twitter day. Between 5am on Thursday 14 October 2010 and 5am, today, Friday 15 October, the force dealt with 3,205 incidents and posted details of every single one on Twitter.
