British Transport Police Chief Constable Welcomes HMIC Anti-Social Behaviour Report

Following the report by Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary (HMIC), on anti-social behaviour today, British Transport Police Chief Constable, Andy Trotter said:

"I welcome Denis O'Connor's report on anti-social behaviour. We in BTP focus on violence and disorder, and by using highly visible officers in trouble spots we have reduced crime across the railway.

"My priority is to ensure that passengers are not only safe, but feel safe."

Since becoming Chief Constable of BTP in September 2009, Andy Trotter has introduced new late night patrols across the country with a focus on anti-social behaviour.

These have resulted in:

● an eight per cent reduction in anti-social behaviour offences

● violent crime down seven per cent

● robbery down 22% - there are now under two a day on the rail system, including London Underground, throughout England, Scotland and Wales

● staff assaults down five per cent
