Bexley's Safer Neighbourhoods Teams to visit every household in the borough
Wednesday, 13 January, 2010
Bexley Police has launched a new long-term initiative called 'Street a Week'.
Bexley's 21 Safer Neighbourhoods Teams will be visiting every residential household in the borough; a street a week.
A member of the team will introduce themselves to residents and listen to any concerns they may have about crime and anti-social behaviour. Officers and PCSOs will take this opportunity to tell people what they are doing to make their local area safer and provide crime prevention advice and information.
Staff from the London Borough of Bexley's Neighbourhood Services team may join the police on some of their visits.
The visits are taking place predominately in the early evenings and at weekends when there is the greatest likelihood of residents being at home.
In consultation with neighbourhood ward panels made up of local people, any concerns that are highlighted will help determine the policing priorities for Bexley's Safer Neighbourhoods Teams.
Inspector Toby Noar, Bexley Police, said: "This is a first for Bexley which will see every resident in the borough being given the opportunity to speak directly with police on issues that concern them.
"There are 1,850 streets in the borough, an average of 88 streets per ward. Not all residents will immediately notice officers taking part in Street a Week; it is a long term initiative that may take over 12 months to complete.
He added: "Our officers will always be in full uniform and in possession of appropriate identification. If you are in any doubt as to who is knocking on your door, please contact Bexley Police."
If anyone would like to speak to their team in the mean time they can still contact them via phone and email.
