Thursday, 02 July, 2009
Dr Timothy Brain, Chief Constable of Gloucestershire, announced his retirement on June 1st and will formally end his police career on January 1 2010, after 31 years service.
He has served as Chief Constable of Gloucestershire since 2001, having previously been the county's Deputy Chief Constable from 1998, and said it had been an honour to serve the county.
"It has been a privilege to serve the people of Gloucestershire and the Gloucestershire Constabulary for over 11 years, firstly as Deputy Chief Constable and for the last eight years as Chief Constable," Dr Brain said.
"The Constabulary has made enormous strides of development over the years and I am pleased to have had the support of loyal officers and members of staff in making that progress.
"I am honoured to have served in three other forces - Avon and Somerset, Hampshire, and West Midlands - all with proud and honourable traditions of service to their communities.
"I am also honoured to have been a member of the Association of Chief Police
Officers for over 15 years, and in particular to have contributed to developments in rescuing children from prostitution and vulnerable women who have been victims of international trafficking.
"I shall leave the Constabulary in good shape, with the highest number of officers and staff in its 170 year history and with crime at its lowest level for 20 years."
