Three North Yorkshire Police officers have raised £1,100 for local cancer charity, 'Naomi's Fight For Life Fund'.

Six-year-old Naomi Savage from Northallerton was diagnosed with a brain tumor in May 2007. The fund was set up to help raise awareness and support research into this type of cancer.

PC Janie Knowles based in Thirsk, PC Nick Arthur based in Northallerton and Inspector Sarah Jane Sanderson, Staff Officer to the Chief Constable, competed in the Leeds half-marathon in September last year.

Between them they raised £1,100 for Naomi's fund and presented the cheque to her last week. Inspector Sanderson said: "We all wanted to do something to help Naomi and between us thought it would be great to run a half-marathon but to raise money as well. Although it was tough, we thought of what Naomi had gone through which kept us going. It was as absolute privilege to run for her.

"She is a tremendously brave little girl who has won the hearts of many people and is an inspiration to us all."

Naomi has had numerous operations and has recently been given the all clear but will be carefully monitored in the future.
