Adam McLean
Lou Dutch
Two Dorset PCs have been honoured for their service and sporting prowess at an awards ceremony at the RNLI College, Poole.
PC Adam McLean received a Chief Constable's Quality of Service Award from Chief Constable Martin Baker. The 32 year-old was off duty when he witnessed a car collide with a tree and land upside down on its roof. PC McLean - who is based at Sherborne police station - immediately rang the emergency services and then entered the car through the rear window where he supported the weight of the seriously injured man.
PC McLean offered the casualty much needed reassurance as well as making sure that he remained conscious and breathing. While looking after the injured man PC McLean also engaged with members of the public at the scene - arranging for them to carry out traffic control and to direct the emergency services when they arrived.
Also honoured at the awards ceremony was PC Lou Dutch, 32, a police dog handler based at Ferndown. PC Dutch received a Sporting Excellence Award for her achievements in national and international cycling competitions. She won the UK women's emergency services cycling time trials at the 10 and 25 mile distances in 2006, 2007 and 2008.
PC Dutch's success in these events led to her being selected for the European police cycling championships which were held in Holland this summer. She won a bronze medal in the individual time trial event, finishing behind two professional German athletes, and also won a bronze medal as part of the women's team competing in the event.
