Northumbria Police Authority appoints new Deputy Chief Constable

Northumbria Police Authority has appointed Sue Sim as its new Deputy Chief Constable.

Sue Sim, who is currently Assistant Chief Constable, was appointed following interviews at Gateshead Civic Centre.

Chairman of Northumbria Police Authority Councillor Mick Henry is confident that the Authority has found the right person for the job.

"Our task in selecting a new Deputy Chief Constable was a very difficult one, but I feel sure that we have chosen the right candidate for the role.

"We know Sue Sim to be a highly capable and experienced police officer and I'm sure she will ably support Chief Constable Mike Craik giving further impetus to our fight against crime.

"The Police Authority was particularly impressed with her ideas and commitment to tackling crime, and I have little doubt that she will continue Northumbria's tradition of taking the fight to the criminal."

Northumbria Police Chief Constable Mike Craik said:

"I'm delighted with the appointment. Sue Sim has already proved herself to be a first rate assistant chief constable and an asset to the team. I'm sure she'll make an excellent deputy chief constable."

Sue Sim said:

"I'm thrilled to have been appointed and also with the support that the police authority has shown to me. I won't let them down, my heart is with Northumbria."

She will start her new role with immediate effect.
