Round Britain bike ride for Lowestoft Officers

Monday, 28 July, 2008

Two members of staff from Lowestoft Police Station are to embark on a round-Britain motorcycle ride to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support and Great Ormond Street Hospital.

Senior Scenes of Crime Officer (SOCO) Dave Wrighting and DC David Holmes from Lowestoft CID, along with Arnie Debenham from BP and Andrew Adams, a ROSPA advanced riding instructor, will set out on Saturday 23 August with the aim of travelling around Britain in 13 days.

The quartet will start the trip at Ness Point and will ride as close to the coastline as possible - following road routes within view of the sea wherever they can. It is estimated they will need to complete around 300 miles a day to finish the journey in the just-under-a-fortnight target.

Dave Wrighting says; "It might not seem a difficult task, but we will be riding for between six and eight hours a day for a fortnight. Anyone who has seen the series 'The long way down' will know how demanding this is both mentally and physically.

"We figure it will cost each of us nearly £1,000 to take part, so we want to make sure we raise lots of money for charity in the process. Both of these causes are really worthwhile, so please dig deep. You can easily donate online at www.justgiving.com/davidwrighting

"Also if you know of anyone who could help provide accommodation at any of the below locations we would really like to hear from you as this is causing us a headache at the moment."
