Looking to the future at ACPO APA 2008

Tuesday, 03 June, 2008

The International Policing Exhibition takes place in Liverpool this month - and is a must attend for police of all ranks.

Running alongside the ACPO - APA Summer Conference this is the biggest event of the year, and a unique opportunity to see and sample the current and future products and services needed for every aspect of policing.

Amongst the new launches at the exhibition this year will be the next generation of
mobile data solutions, to speed detection and minimise police paperwork and reporting time, and the NPIA mobile information programme, shortly to be rolled out across all forces. The new mobile data and multibearer devices give real time access and are increasingly a key tool in daily policing.

The most technologically advanced police vehicles to date will also be unveiled at the show, incorporating applications across the full spectrum of police work, including surveillance, traffic and armed response).

In addition to case studies and presentations from policing organisations and leading suppliers to the service, Microsoft will present a stream of international police case studies in the exhibition seminar theatre.

Topics covered in the seminars last year included intelligence gathering and telephone number retrieval, surveillance, community cohesion, inter-force data sharing, and biometrics. Full details of the 2008 knowledge building programme are available on the exhibition website at www.acpo-apa.co.uk and all sessions are free to attend to all visitors.

The two-day event will showcase the latest policing equipment and technologies either currently available or in development from over 150 exhibitors. Product areas include services for command and control, state of the art surveillance, forensics, intelligence analysis, data protection, fraud investigation, crime prevention, drug detection, uniforms, protective clothing, telecommunications, fleet management, vehicles, biometrics and much more. This is also an opportunity to gain up to the minute policy information from leading police organisations.

The exhibition is expected to attract more than 2000 visitors from not only hosts
Merseyside Police, but from professionals working within the police and security
sectors nationwide, plus representatives of the Home Office, Borders and Immigration Agency, HM Revenue and Customs, Civil Nuclear Police and British Transport Police.

ACPO-APA 2008 will be held at the Liverpool Arena and Convention Centre (ACC). The exhibition will take place from 25-26 June with the ACPO-APA Summer Conference taking place alongside it from 24-26 June at the same venue. The ACPO-APA Summer Conference (24-26 June) is a paid closed session for members of the Association of Chief Police Officers and the Association of Police Authorities.
