3M will continue to provide mobile identification technology to The Home Office as it enters a Transition Assistance Period under The Home Office/3M Mobile-Identification contract. During this time, The Home Office will procure a new suite of services as part of its Home Office Biometrics programme.

From 1 April, the government department continues to offer the mobile biometrics service, under the existing arrangement, to forces in the UK for up to 27 months.

The MobileID device, provided by science-based technology company 3M, can be used to save time and resources for police forces by performing fingerprint checks at the scene.

Matt Spencer, general manager for public sector markets at 3M, said: “We are pleased that we can continue to support The Home Office and police forces while they transition to new biometrics services.

“Our technology can provide police forces with a time-efficient solution, which enables officers to stay at the frontline and create safer communities. We look forward to working with a number of forces in the coming weeks to understand the benefits of having this capability as part of their existing suite of mobile applications.”
