Mayor and Westminster Met Commander launch new 100-strong police officer initiative for West End

Westminster police are launching a new Impact Zone Team offering a dedicated policing of the West End's Leicester Square, Coventry Street, Piccadilly Circus and the immediate surrounding areas.

The official launch is on Monday 28 July and The Mayor, Westminster Commander Alison Newcomb and Heart of London Chief Executive Sarah Porter will join 100 officers set to form the Team.

This initiative will provide a permanent and highly visible presence across this area which attracts in excess of 28 million tourists every year. Leicester Square alone, with the highest concentration of licensed premises in Europe, sees in excess of 225,000 visitors every Saturday night.
