Police Mutual's Member Care - supporting our members when they need it most

Monday, 19 November, 2012

No one likes to think about it, but the truth is that all of us will be affected by a serious health condition at some time in our lives.

Whether it's our own health that causes concern or that of a loved one, it can be very hard to manage for lots of reasons. Knowing the right questions to ask and where to look for help is really important.

That's why Police Mutual has introduced a new service for members - free, practical support and advice for anyone who may be experiencing serious illness, chronic health conditions, bereavement or disability.

The Member Care Service is provided for Police Mutual by RED ARC. It offers a confidential and independent care advisory service provided by qualified, experienced nurses. So if the worst does happen, our members have got someone they can turn to who can help guide them through when things are tough.

Here are some examples of situations that Member Care can help with: cancers, heart attacks, stress, depression, elderly care, bereavements, car accidents, strokes, illnesses in children - this list is by no means exhaustive.

As well as support and advice, members may be offered access to a range of beneficial therapies such as counselling or physiotherapy, or complementary therapies such as acupuncture and reflexology.

Police Mutual's Commercial Director, James Henderson, "Our aim is to support our members when they need us most, as well as during the good times. Through initiatives like the Member Care Service, we can offer tangible and meaningful support for our members to help them deal with the most traumatic times in their lives.

"If you are experiencing a serious health issue, either directly or indirectly, we understand it's a very difficult time. Our Member Care Service can offer you free, practical support from qualified, experienced nurses whenever you need it.

"We're here for the whole Police family, which includes serving or retired officers, PCSOs, staff and Specials, as well as their partners, siblings, children and grandchildren."

If you're a Police Mutual member and feel you could benefit from the support of the Member Care Service, please call us on 0845 450 5220 or email membercare@pmas.co.uk to arrange to speak to a nurse adviser. If you know a colleague who is a Police Mutual member and could benefit from our support, please pass on our details to them.

If you feel you need support and are not already a Police Mutual member, call us on 0845 88 22 999 - becoming a member is simple and we can talk you through the process.
