Nottinghamshire Police Authority Chief Executive Seconded To National Agency

Tuesday, 25 August, 2009

Simon Hobbs, Chief Executive of Nottinghamshire Police Authority, is to be seconded to the National Policing Improvement Agency (NPIA) from October for a six-month period.

This is a new step for the NPIA: Mr Hobbs appointment is the first time a Police Authority representative has joined its practitioner ranks, giving recognition to the contribution made to improving policing by Police Authorities across England and Wales. The secondment will give the NPIA access to an in depth understanding of the role Police Authorities play as the 'critical friend' to their police forces, ensuring their efficiency and effectiveness.

John Clarke, Chair of Nottinghamshire Police Authority, said: "The NPIA has recognised Police Authorities are crucial in the drive for improvements in policing, and it is pleasing that they have selected a Nottinghamshire representative,' he said. "The move will also enable this Authority, and ultimately Nottinghamshire communities, to benefit as we all seek to implement best practice.

"Now the Authority is seeking an interim Chief Executive, who has a good understanding of policing and the tripartite structure between police forces, authorities and the Home Office. They will also require a professional legal qualification.

The role includes close liaison with the Force Command team, a sound understanding of working with partners and community engagement. The Authority also drives a robust performance scrutiny process, in which the Chief Executive is closely involved.
