Uniform change welcomed

Wednesday, 12 August, 2009

Six hundred Gwent police officers that have patrol based, active roles including response, traffic, dog section and armed response officers will be wearing new additions to their uniform, more practically suited to policing in the 21st
Century.

The new garments include black-pocketed trousers, short sleeved collarless zip up black polo shirts made with a wicking material and a long sleeved fluorescent
outer jacket. Hats, boots and an optional cold weather fleece will remain the same.

All other patrol officers, including neighbourhood officers and PCSOs, will receive their new garments in September.

PCSOs will have the same items as officers
except a blue shirt instead of black and the fluorescent jacket will have blue markings. Non-patrol officers will continue to wear the traditional dress shirt and tie. All officers will also wear tunics for formal occasions.
