Newmarket PC gets Gold

A Newmarket police officer has grabbed skiing gold at a national police competition.

Nine competitors represented Suffolk Constabulary at the annual Indoor Snow Sports Championships at the Snow Dome in Milton Keynes last month. PC Seb Pollard won the Individual Dual Slalom Skiing Plate.

It was PC Pollard's first competition representing the force, he says, "I was surprised I won my event, but was obviously very happy to bring back some glory for Suffolk Police. In my event you race against another down the slope between a number of poles, the first down wins and progresses to the next round. Instead of a trophy I got some ski poles and some gloves which will be put to good use."

Even though this was PC Pollard's first police competition, he's no novice on the slopes. "I have been skiing since I was about 13, although I have only practised regularly for the past 3 years. I normally go twice a year abroad so get two weeks on snow a year.

"I don't do any specific training at all as it is really just a hobby I really enjoy. I'd ideally like to go and do a season in Canada at some point to hone my skills but I don't know if the boss at work would let me!"

Around 80 skiers and 50 snowboarders from police forces from across the country took part in the Championships.
