New hearing protection tool offers a first line of defence

The 'SecureEar' device fits snugly in the ear canal and provides protection from gun shot yet also incorporates specialist software that amplifies the sounds you want to hear.

Hearing specialists launch SecureEar to protect the ears from loud gunfire

An innovative digital hearing protection tool that safeguards the ears from loud gunfire has been launched by hearing health experts Siemens Hearing Instruments. The 'SecureEar' device fits snugly in the ear canal and provides protection from loud sounds that can cause hearing damage, yet simultaneously amplifies important sounds such as conversations with colleagues via specialist, acoustic software.

Offering a discreet alterative to ear defenders or traditional plugs, SecureEar is ideal for Authorised Firearm Officers and military personnel when training on the range or during active duty. The device can reduce the blast of a gun by up to 35dB and its settings are pre-defined for optimum impulse noise protection and loud noise suppression without any compromise to hearing and speech recognition.

"One of the most common types of hearing damage is as a result of loud gunfire or from people working in particularly noisy environments," said Wendy Davies, National Sales and Audiology Manager at Siemens Hearing Instruments. "It is vital to protect ears from the loud, intense bangs that can reach over 100 decibels and while defenders and traditional moulded plugs may offer protection, they require frequent removal to hear surrounding sounds such as speech. SecureEar combines innovative digital technologies that stop what can damage the inner ear yet at the same time interpret and amplify softer surrounding sounds."

Fittings for SecureEar are made by professional hearing specialists to ensure a snug and tailored fit to the ear canal without causing pressure. The device comes in natural skin tone colours and can be complemented by an antibacterial Aloe Vera gel for smooth and comfortable wear.

Siemens Hearing Instruments is a world-leader in audiology solutions and the SecureEar device has been designed to incorporate the very latest digital hearing health innovations.
