Integrating genisys into the Merseyside Police vehicles' mobile data terminals

Fleet managers and IT specialists at the Merseyside Police, UK, are working with Carnation Designs to integrate genisys into a new mobile data terminal for the police vehicles that manages all of the communication systems, on-board equipment and emergency response technologies through a single computer system.

The Merseyside Police has depended on electronic management systems from Carnation Designs for a number of years for its fleet of around 400 vehicles, which are fitted with considerable amounts of on-board specialised equipment. The new mobile data terminal allows drivers to access and interact with information from diverse sources, including automatic vehicle location systems, digital video recordings, automatic number plate recognition systems, the force's command room and the DVLA, using just one screen. Carnation Designs is fully integrating genisys with this new system, including development of a virtual keypad for touchscreen control of genisys as well as some new features such as voice messages to alert the driver of any problems.

This brand new, streamlined approach has been trialled in a proof-of-concept study that quickly showed the flexible interface will be suitable for almost any vehicle, including cars with an existing genisys system. The latest Merseyside traffic vehicle was displayed with a fully functioning set-up, at the Carnation Designs stand at CVS 2008.
