The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) enhance and improve the health of millions of people every day through the effective regulation of medicines and medical devices, underpinned by science and research.

The Criminal Enforcement Unit (CEU) is a dedicated law enforcement function within the MHRA, leading interventions to tackle the most serious criminal threats to the public from the illegal sale and supply of medicines and medical devices.

This is an omnicompetent role. You could be involved in a variety of activities, including intelligence analysis, tackling cybercrime, investigation, covert operations, intelligence collection, or delivering innovative interventions to criminal threats as outlined in the Job description below.

Job description

We are currently looking to fill a vacancy and are especially keen to hear from candidates with significant experience in performing intelligence research and analysis.

The MHRA conducts work to identify, tackle and where appropriate prosecute those responsible for criminal offending. Our activities are generated through an intelligence-led approach, focusing on the key threats to the UK and managing risk to patients.

Essential criteria

Candidates will be expected to have experience in the following areas:

• The use of recognised analytical techniques to create intelligence products to inform relevant strategic and tactical planning to tackle serious and organised crime (SOC).
• The analysis of multiple sources of information, to assess known and emerging threats.
• Devising strategies to assist in the detection, prevention, targeting and disruption of criminal threats.
• Exploring beyond the data – developing hypotheses, intelligence gaps and making recommendations to support decision making.

Technical skills

We will assess you against these technical skills during the selection process:

• Current formal training in intelligence assessment and analysis (GIAT or equivalent) and current demonstrable competence to ‘proficient’ against the PHIA professional development framework
• Knowledge of relevant legislation including General Data Protection Regulation, Information Sharing, and RIPA
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and a proven ability to articulate complex matters appropriately, clearly and concisely in a way that aids comprehension.

This is a full-time home working role on a permanent basis with the potential of working from one of our London sites – Canary Wharf London E14 4PU / Potters Bar London EN6 3QG. This post will require some occasional travel within the UK. Please be aware that this role can only be worked in the UK and not overseas.
