The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) enhance and improve the health of millions of people every day through the effective regulation of medicines and medical devices, underpinned by science and research.
The Criminal Enforcement Unit (CEU) is a dedicated law enforcement function within the MHRA, leading interventions to tackle the most serious criminal threats to the public from the illegal sale and supply of medicines and medical devices.
This is an omnicompetent role. You could be involved in a variety of activities, including tackling cybercrime, investigation, covert operations, intelligence collection, or delivering innovative interventions to criminal threats as outlined in the attached Job description. Job description
The MHRA conducts work to identify, tackle and where appropriate prosecute those responsible for criminal offending. Our activities are generated through an intelligence-led approach, focusing on the key threats to the UK and managing risk to patients.
We are currently looking to fill a vacancy and are especially keen to hear from candidates with experience in one of the following areas: business support; source handling; or the assessment and dissemination of criminal intelligence. Post holders will be expected to use agency IT systems to collect and assess research intelligence.
Desirable criteria
It is desirable, but not essential, for candidates to have law enforcement experience in any one of the following areas:
- Receiving, evaluating, and disseminating intelligence reports, highlighting and managing risk where appropriate.
- Carrying out business support tasks and coordinating appropriate responses to crime referrals and requests for information
- Discharging statutory source handling responsibilities in accordance with relevant legislation and codes of practice

Technical skills
We will assess you against one of the following technical skills during the selection process:
- Recognised formal training as a CHIS handler and demonstrable current competence sufficient to perform the statutory duties under s29(5)(a) of the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and a proven ability to articulate complex matters appropriately, clearly and concisely in a way that aids comprehension.
This is a full-time home working role on a permanent basis with the potential of working from one of our London sites – Canary Wharf London E14 4PU / Potters Bar London EN6 3QG. This post will require some occasional travel within the UK. Please be aware that this role can only be worked in the UK and not overseas.
