Shape the way we pursue serious and organised crime

Human traffickers, firearms and drugs dealers, cybercriminals and exploiters of children - at the NCA, we work at the cutting-edge of law enforcement, tackling those posing the most serious threat to UK life.

Now, more than ever, serious and organised criminals are finding new and more ruthless ways to prey on vulnerable people and the wider public. And, as the crime landscape continues to evolve, so do we. Our teams work creatively and collaboratively to find new and unexpected ways to stay ahead. Join them and your work will have a serious impact as you help us protect millions of people across the UK.

Your role

As an Online Covert Tactical Advisor, you’ll join National Covert Internet Targeting team (NCIT). Here, we use advanced open source techniques to conduct Covert Internet Investigations, targeting high threat Child Sex Abuse (CSA) offenders operating on the clear and dark web.

You’ll manage a team of advanced investigators who are tasked with collecting intelligence through covert techniques. You’ll develop the team in line with our annual plan and national control strategy, delivering an effective response to online offending.

On top of this, you’ll deliver training and take responsibility for staff security, protecting tradecraft and assets in the process.

Your background

You’ll have experience working with open source to tackle serious and organised crime. You should also have an advanced understanding of relevant legislation (e.g. PACE, RIPA, DPIA, GDPR and CPIA), along with experience managing risk in relevant environment.

Beyond experience, we’re looking for people who are driven to constantly change and improve. You should also be able to make effective decisions using your judgement and help others develop their abilities.

Open source training to NPCC advanced level (or equivalent) is essential. UCOL or cover officer training is desirable.

Rewards

We take your career and development seriously and want to help you build a truly successful career with us and the wider Civil Service. So, we’ll make sure you receive the right training, guidance and coaching as well as regular performance and development reviews.

What’s more, as a Civil Service employee you’re also entitled to a large range of benefits, including generous annual leave, flexible working, a contributory pension, staff bonuses and recognition, volunteering days, childcare vouchers and other salary sacrifice options, and an employee discount scheme.
